About the troupe
Founded in Penang in 2015, Plasticity Theatre Troupe (PTT) is a contemporary shadow performance collective centred on environmental sustainability and resource reuse. The troupe transforms discarded materials and everyday objects into theatrical elements, combining light, shadow, movement and storytelling to explore environmental concerns, social justice and humanity’s relationship with nature. In 2025, PTT marked its tenth anniversary by restaging Plastic City, continuing a decade of ecological storytelling. Beyond stage productions, PTT develops talks, backstage tours and workshops that invite diverse communities to explore environmental awareness through shadow play and everyday materials. Its practice has also expanded into installation art, bringing light, shadow, space and reused objects together in immersive experiences. By revealing the creative possibilities within what society discards, PTT encourages resourcefulness and new ways of engaging with environmental and social issues.
